MacMillan named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week

MacMillan, who racked up seven points in the two wins, was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week.

MacMillan registered his first collegiate hat trick and collected a career-high five points in Saturday’s 7-2 win over the Tigers, becoming UND’s first player to score five points in a game since Ryan Martens on Dec. 5, 2008 at Harvard. Two of his goals came shorthanded, tying a UND single-game record previously held only by Russ Romaniuk (12/02/90) and Mike Burggraf (12/09/78).

A native of Penticton, British Columbia, MacMillan also scored two of UND’s three goals in Friday’s 3-1 win. He also 60 percent (24-for-40) of his faceoffs in the series, including a 14-for-18 mark on Saturday.

Roberto Luongo interviews Zach Fucale

Roberto Luongo and Zach Fucale were born 16 years apart, but they do have several things in common: they’re both Quebec-born goalies and Quebec League stars born to Italian families, and they’ve each represented their country in high-stakes international competitions.

Fucale, 19, has yet to play an NHL game after his hometown Canadiens drafted him 36th overall in 2013, but he attended Canadiens camp this year and had just returned to his Halifax Mooseheads team to start the season. That’s where special guest editor-in-chief Luongo caught up with him for an exclusive, insightful talk, under the supervision of yours truly, that was more conversation than straight-ahead question-and-answer.

Michael McCarron took the offseason to get in better shape, hoping that will make him the goal-scorer everyone wants

Michael McCarron had a head-scratching first season in the Ontario Hockey League.

The Knights forward didn’t produce the kind of offence he and fans expected after his much-hyped arrival last fall.

That, he believes, will change in Year 2, which would be welcome for a club desperate for a goal-scoring spark.

Bulldogs' Tangradi hopes to join former teammate Subban with Habs

Eric Tangradi still has one up on his former junior teammate P.K. Subban.

At the 2007 National Hockey League entry draft, the Anaheim Ducks selected Tangradi in the second round with the 42nd overall pick. With the very next pick, the Canadiens selected Subban from the Belleville Bulls, where Tangradi was the captain.
